The authors consider the Cauchy problem for quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws with damping: \(\partial_tu + \partial_xf(u) + Lu\) with \(u(t,x)\in\mathbb R^n\), \(L\) is constant, \(x\in\mathbb R^1\). The system is strictly hyperbolic and weakly linearly degenerate. Initial data is continuous with continuous derivative everywhere except \(x=0\), where it has different left and right limits; also initial distribution quickly decays together with its derivative. Existence and uniqueness of global weakly discontinuous solution containing only \(n\) weak discontinuities with small amplitude. It is shown that the solution has a global structure similar to that of the similarity solution of the corresponding Riemann problem. As an example, the model of fluid flow with viscosity induced by fading memory is considered.
