The authors study \(\mathbb Q\)-factorial Gorenstein toric Fano varieties of big Picard numbers. According to \textit{C. Casagrande} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 56, No. 1, 121--130 (2006; Zbl 1095.52005)], such \(d\)-dimensional variety has Picard number at most \(2d\) if \(d\) is even and \(2d-1\) if \(d\) is odd. In even case the variety with greatest Picard number is a product of \(d/2\) copies of del Pezzo surface of degree 6. In the papers \(d\)-dimensional \(\mathbb Q\)-factorial Gorenstein toric Fano varieties with Picard number \(2d-1\) are classified. In the algebro-geometric language (Corollary 1.3) their main result is the following (for convex-geometric interpretation see Theorem 1.2). Let \(X\) be such a variety. Let \(S_6\) be a del Pezzo surface of degree 6. If \(d\) is even, then \(X\) is a product of \((d-2)/2\) copies of \(S_6\) and a (possibly singular) del Pezzo surface \(S\), where there are 3 possibilities for \(S\). If \(d\) is odd, then \(X\) is a product of \((d-3)/2\) copies of \(S_6\) and a Picard 5 toric Fano threefold \(Y\) which is either a product of \(S_6\) and a projective line or a unique toric bundle over \(\mathbb P^1\) whose fiber is \(S_6\). This result generalizes \textit{M. Oebro} [Manuscr. Math. 125, No. 1, 69--79 (2008; Zbl 1139.52015)], where the same statement for terminal varieties is proven.
