The purpose of the paper is to incorporate FACTS devices in an optimal active power flow model for subsequent efficient implementation of the interior-point method. One of the advantages of the suggested approach is a combination of the interior point method and network flow modeling. This allows one to significantly reduce the computation time in comparison with the traditional nodal approach. The authors discuss mathematical equivalence of the network flow and nodal models, as well as computational advantages of a new methodology. The performance of the model was evaluated on three load scenarios for the 3,397-bus and 4,075-branch Brazilian power system. The tests demonstrate efficiency and robustness of a new model formulation.
