The article studies the domain of convergence of sequences of AAK-type meromorphic and diagonal multipoint Padé approximants to a function of the form \[ f(z)=\int { d\mu(t) \over z-t} + \bigg( {p\over q}\bigg)(z), \] where \(p\) and \(q\) are polynomials such that \((p/q)(\infty)=0\) and this rational function does not have poles on the support \([c,d]\subset (-1,1)\) of the complex Borel measure \(\mu\). Such a function is holomorphic in the domain \(\mathcal D_f\) that is the complement in \( \bar \mathbb C\) to \([c,d]\) and the poles of \(p/q\). It is assumed that the measure \(\mu\) is absolutely continuous with respect to the arcsine distribution \(d \omega\) on \([c,d]\), \(d\mu = \mu' \, d\omega\), and that there are two parameters \(\alpha, \beta\in (-1/2,0]\) such that \(\mu'(t) |t-c|^{\alpha}|t-d|^{\beta}\) satisfies certain smoothness conditions on \([c,d]\). If \(\mu' \neq 0\) on \([c,d]\), it is proved that the best \(L^p(\mathbb T)\) meromorphic approximants, \(\mathbb T=\{|z|=1\}\), converge to \(f\) in \(\mathcal D_f \cap \{|z|<1 \}\). In the case of multipoint Padé approximants an additional condition is needed for the interpolation scheme; it is assumed here that the nodes are ``nearly'' conjugate-symmetric. In this case the author allows the density \(\mu'\) to have zeros (of order \(<1\)) at a finite number of points on \( (c,d)\). Under these assumptions (locally uniform) convergence in the whole \(\mathcal D_f\) is established. The proof is based on the asymptotics of non-Hermitian orthogonal polynomials with varying weights. At the end of the papers, some illustrative results of numerical experiments are presented.
