\textit{C. Ciliberto} and \textit{E. Sernesi} proved that a canonical, non-hyperelliptic curve of genus \(g\) can be reconstructed from its Brill-Noether varieties [J. Algebr. Geom. 1, No. 2, 231--250 (1992; Zbl 0787.14019), J. Algebra 171, No. 3, 867--893 (1995; Zbl 0827.14016), Commun. Algebra 28, No. 12, 5993--6001 (2000; Zbl 1005.14011)]. Here the author uses the methods they introduced (focal varieties) to go further for \(g=6\) and \(g=8\). He also proves that for a general curve of genus \(6\) its focal variety is a hypersurface, while he give examples of special curves in which this is not true. He uses both first order foci and second order foci.
