This textbook, now in its third edition, addresses students of engineering and computer sciences. It covers all standard material: elementary functions, calculus of one and several variables (but no multiple integrals), algebra and linear algebra, infinite series, complex numbers (quite extensive), differential equations (with solution techniques for linear differential equations), theory of probability and descriptive statistics. All major theorems are given, but mostly without proof. A special highlight are the large number of exercises, which come in several flavours: short exercises interspersed with the text and with immediate solutions, a comprehension test (one page) consisting of multiple choice questions, and more extensive exercises with explicit and detailed solutions at the end of each chapter. Very helpful are the summaries of definitions, theorems and examples for each topic. Each chapter details two applications, with a bias towards computer science and economics(!). The third edition has added new extra online material: a learning software, which repeats and extends the comprehensions tests, but with explanations, and Maple\(^{\circledR}\)-worksheets for each chapter, accompagnied with a collection of Maple commands specific for the respective topics, et al.
