Quasiconformal frames (Q982301)

In the paper, existence of solutions \(f= (f_1,\dots, f_n)\) in the Sobolev space \(W^{1,n}_{\text{loc}}(\Omega; \mathbb{R}^n)\) to the system \[ (\text{det\,}Df(x))^{-2/n} Df(x)^t Df(x)= G(x) \] is studied from the point of view of approximative solutions, a method suggested by Sullivan. The matrix field \(G\) determines a conformal structure on \(\Omega\), and to a measurable Riemannian metric in this conformal class one can associate an orthonormal frame field \(\rho\) of positive orientation. This frame field, interpreted as a matrix field, satisfies the equation \[ (\text{det\,}\rho(x))^{-2/n} \rho(x)^t\rho(x)= G(x). \]
