The structure of non-commutative \(C^*\)-algebras is far less understood than the commutative case. Even specific examples such as \(C^*\)-algebras of non-commutative non-compact groups leave much to explore. This paper studies the group \(C^*\)-algebras of a class of exponential Lie groups \(G(\pm)\) that have similarities with the affine group. In particular, it is discussed how such a group \(C^*\)-algebra \({\mathcal A}\), identified with its Fourier transform, embeds in the algebra \(\ell^\infty(\widehat A)\) of bounded operator fields defined over the unitary dual \(\widehat G(\pm)\). The exponential Lie groups are semi-direct products of \(\mathbb R\) with a finite-dimensional real vector space \(V\), such that the first component \(\mathbb R\) acts diagonally on the complexification of \(V\). Among the associated eigenvalues at least one is assumed to have modulus strictly greater than one, and another eigenvalue of modulus strictly smaller than one. The case when all eigenvalues are of modulus strictly greater than one is also treated, with the group referred to as \(G(+)\). The authors describe the groups \(G(\pm)\), their Lie algebras \({\mathfrak g(\pm)}\) and the co-adjoint orbits in \({\mathfrak g}^*(\pm)\). When a sequence of co-adjoint orbits is properly converging, the limit points are characterized. They present irreducible representations of \(G(\pm)\) and of its \(C^*\)-algebra. Then they define the Fourier transform \({\mathcal F}({\mathcal A})\) of the \(C^*\)-algebra and characterize the range of the Fourier transform in the algebra of bounded operator fields over \(\widehat G(\pm)\).
