Eigenvalues for real square tensors have been introduced and nice properties such as the Perron-Frobenius theorem for eigenvalues of nonnegative square tensors have been obtained in recent years. Real rectangular tensors arise from the strong ellipticity condition problem in solid mechanics and the entanglement problem in quantum physics. In this paper the authors study the properties of singular values of a real rectangular tensor, and give an algorithm to find the largest singular value of a nonnegative rectangular tensor. Numerical examples are given to show the efficiency of the algorithm.
