Let \(h,H\) be Hilbert spaces and let \({\mathcal U}:=\{U_{s,t}:0\leq s \leq t <\infty\}\) be an `abstract unitary evolution on \(h \otimes H\) with independent and stationary increments', i.e., a family of unitary operators in \(B(h \otimes H)\) satisfying the evolution equation \(U_{r,s}U_{s,t} = U_{r,t}\) and the tensor independence and stationarity conditions with respect to a fixed vector state on \(B(H)\). In their earlier work [Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 45, No. 3, 745--786 (2009; Zbl 1194.81138)], the authors of the paper under review together with \textit{M. Schürmann} showed that every such \({\mathcal U}\) which is uniformly norm continuous and of Gaussian type arises naturally as the solution of a quantum stochastic differential equation of \textit{R. L. Hudson} and \textit{K. R. Parthasarathy} [Commun. Math. Phys. 93, 301--323 (1984; Zbl 0546.60058)] with a bounded generator. In the current work the authors solve an analogous problem in the situation where the continuity assumption is relaxed to strong continuity. Difficulties arising from the need to construct an unbounded stochastic generator force several extra technical conditions on the densities of the maps arising in various steps of the proof.
