An extension of the study of single interval exchanges is to consider their dynamics in terms of group actions. The set \({\mathcal E}\) of all interval exchange transformations forms a group under composition, and an interval exchange action of a group \(G\) is a homomorphism \(G \rightarrow{\mathcal E}\). The goal of this paper is to classify continuous interval exchange actions of the group \(\mathbb R\). The main result of this paper is that under some natural and unrestrictive topological assumptions, the rotation actions classify all continuous interval exchange actions of \(\mathbb R\) In particular, up to conjugacy in \({\mathcal E}\), any one-parameter interval exchange action factors through a rotational torus action.
