The authors prove: For Dirichlet (or Neumann) conditions, the map between the domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n\) with analytic \((\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z)^n\)-symmetric boundary and the spectrum of the Laplacian defined on \(\Omega\) is 1-1. For \(n=2\), this result was obtained by the second author in [Geom. Funct. Anal. 10, No.~3, 628--677 (2000; Zbl 0961.58012)]. This is the first positive answer to the Kac problem in higher dimensions.
