Instabilities of a steady-state solution in a voltage and frequency converter for electrical power supplies are shown to occur for critical values of the output/input voltage transfer ratio. This ratio drives a Hopf bifurcation, which is thoroughly investigated by the authors through linear and nonlinear stability analysis with the aid of numerical methods and simulations. Subcritical values for instability emerge from the nonlinear treatment.
