An orthonormal wavelet \(\psi\) is a function in \(L^2(\mathbb{R})\), whose successive dilates by a scalar \(d\) of all integral translates form an orthonormal basis for \(L^2(\mathbb{R})\). A measurable set \(W\subset\mathbb{R}\) is called a wavelet set if the characteristic function on \(W\) equals to \(\sqrt{2\pi}\) times the modulus of the Fourier transform of an orthonormal wavelet. Moreover, a measurable set \(S\) in \(\mathbb{R}\) is a (generalized) scaling set if \(S=\bigcup_{j<0}2^jW\) for some wavelet set \(W\) (precisely, in this case \(S\) is a generalized scaling set for dilation 2). The paper deals with the construction and characterization of scaling sets containing three intervals. In addition, scaling sets built up by \(n\) intervals are also discussed.
