The basic results on the theory of functions of bounded variation in an abstract Wiener space are discussed. First of all, the tools of the corresponding finite dimensional theory are carefully examined in order to find those results which are still helpful in infinite dimensional setting. A number of new results on bounded variation functions in the Wiener space setting. Open problems are formulated.
