There has been a lot of interest in the representation theoretic Dirac cohomology with the proof by \textit{J.-S. Huang} and \textit{P. Pandžić} of a conjecture of Vogan [J. Am. Math. Soc. 15, No. 1, 185--202 (2002; Zbl 0980.22013)], extended by \textit{B. Kostant} to the cubic Dirac operator [Prog. Math. 210, 69--93 (2003; Zbl 1165.17301)]. More precisely, let \(G\) be a real reductive Lie group and \(K\) a maximal compact subgroup of \(G\). Write \(g_{0}=k_{0}+p_{0}\) for the corresponding Cartan decomposition of the Lie algebra \(g_{0}\) of \(G\); where \(k_{0}\) is the Lie algebra of \(K\) and \(p_{0}\) is some \(K\)-invariant vector subspace of \(g_{0}\). Fix an orthonormal basis \(\{Y_{i}\}\) of \(p_{0}\). Let \(S\) be the spinor space for \(p_{0}\) and \(r\) the Clifford multiplication. Given a \((g,K)\)-module \((\pi,X)\), where \(g\) is the complexification of \(g_{0}\), one defines the invariant differential operator \(D=\sum_{i}\pi(Y_{i})\otimes r(Y_{i})\) acting on \(X\otimes S\). This operator is known as the Dirac operator associated with the \((g,K)\)-module \((\pi,X)\). Then the Dirac cohomology of \(X\) is the quotient \(Ker(D)/Ker(D)\cap Im(D)\). In the paper under review, the authors classify unitary representations with non-zero Dirac cohomology in the case where \(G\) is an exceptional group of type \(E\). This is done under the equal rank condition, i.e., \(G\) and \(K\) have the same complex rank.
