The author extends some results on the uniform convergence of Fourier series of periodic functions of bounded variation [see \textit{S. A. Telyakovskii}, Proc. Steklov Ins. Math. 219, 372--381 (1997; Zbl 0926.42004)] to the two-variable setting using the bounded variation in the sense of Hardy \(BV_H({\mathbb T}^2)\), that is to say \(f(x,y)\) defined on the interval \([0,2\pi]\times [0,2\pi]\) is of bounded variation if \(f(\cdot, a_2)\) and \(f(a_1,\cdot)\) are of bounded variation on \([0,2\pi]\) and \( [0,2\pi]\) respectively. Namely it is shown that if \(f\in BV_H({\mathbb T}^2)\), \((m_j)\) and \((n_j)\) satisfy that \(\sum_{l=j}^\infty \frac{1}{m_l}\leq \frac{A}{m_j}\) and \(\sum_{l=j}^\infty \frac{1}{n_l}\leq \frac{B}{n_j}\) and \(I_p=[m_p,m_{p+1})\cap {\mathbb N}\) and \(J_q=[n_q,n_{q+1})\cap {\mathbb N}\) then \[ \sum_{p=1}^\infty\sum_{q=1}^\infty \max_{(m,n)\in I_p\times J_q}| \sum_{| j| =m_p}^m \sum_{| k| =n_q}^n \hat f(j,k)e^{i(jx+ky)}| \leq \frac{(\pi+2)^2}{\pi^2} A B V_{11}(f), (x,y)\in {\mathbb T}^2, \] where \(V_{1 1}(f)=\sup\sum_{j=1}^m \sum_{k=1}^n | f(x_j,y_k)-f(x_{j-1},y_k)- f(x_j,y_{k-1})+f(x_{j-1},y_{k-1})| \) and the supremum is extended for all finite partitions \(0=x_0< x_1<\dots<x_m=2\pi\) and \(0=y_0< y_1<\dots<y_n=2\pi\).
