This book is a softcover reprint of the original hardcover version in 1996. This new edition is unaltered from the original and the review of the original hardcover version is still very much relevant, see [1996; Zbl 0864.57001]. Since the above review contains a detailed and lengthy description of the content of the book, there is no need to repeat this here. Despite that it was written over 10 years ago the book is still an elegant introduction to basic knot theory suitable for an advanced undergraduate that contains some topics of modern knot theory such as the Jones polynomial, skein polynomials, and Vassiliev invariants. There are now newer books in knot theory -- such as [\textit{V. Manturov}, Knot theory. Boca Raton, FL: Chapman \& Hall/CRC (2004; Zbl 1052.57001)] and [\textit{P. R. Cromwell}, Knots and Links. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (2004; Zbl 1066.57007)] -- but Murasugi's book is still one of the best introductions to knot theory for students and novices.
