Representations of a quantum group form a ribbon category, that is, there are `braiding' and `twisting', and one can define a link invariant. If the quantum parameter is a root of unity, then the set of representations spanned by the irreducible representations in the Weyl alcove becomes a modular category, that is, the matrix (so-called \(S\)-matrix) indexed by the simple objects and whose entries are the values corresponding to the Hopf link becomes invertible, and one can define a three-manifold invariant and a topological quantum field theory [\textit{A. A. Kirillov jun.}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 9, No. 4, 1135--1169 (1996; Zbl 0861.05065)]. In the paper under review the author classifies the closed subsets of the Weyl alcove of the quantum group associated with any simple Lie algebra and any root of unity. Here a closed subset is a subset that forms a ribbon subcategory. Note that for such a category, we can construct a modular category by taking a certain quotient [\textit{A. Bruguieres}, Math. Ann. 316, No. 2, 215--236 (2000; Zbl 0943.18004); \textit{M. Muger}, Adv. Math. 150, No. 2, 151--201 (2000; Zbl 0945.18006)]. It is also observed that possibly new TQFTs are obtained.
