    The Lerch zeta-function \(L(\lambda, \alpha, s)\), for \(0<\lambda\leq 1\), \(0<\alpha\leq 1\) is defined by \[ L(\lambda, \alpha, s)= \sum_{n=0}^\infty\frac{e^{2\pi i\lambda n}}{(n+\alpha)^s}. \] The author proves the following joint universality theorem. Suppose \(0<\alpha_l< 1\) are algebraically independent numbers and \(0<\lambda_l< 1\) for \(1\leq l\leq m\). Let \(K_1,\dots, K_m\) be compact subsets of the strip \(1/2<\Re s<1\) with connected complements. Let \(f_l(s)\) be functions analytic in the interior of \(K_l\) and continuous on \(K_l\). Then for every \(\varepsilon>0\), \[ \liminf_{T\to\infty}\frac1{T}\text{meas}\left\{\tau\in [0,T] : \sup_{1\leq l\leq m}\sup_{s\in K_l}| L(\lambda_l, \alpha_l, s+i\tau)-f_l(s)| <\varepsilon\right\}>0. \] This result improves the previous joint universality theorem obtained by \textit{A. Laurinčikas} and \textit{K. Matsumoto} [Lith. Math. J. 46, No. 3, 271--286 (2006; Zbl 1187.11029)]. [\textit{K. Matsumoto}, Proceedings of the third international conference in honour of J. Kubilius, Palanga, Lithuania, September 24--28, 2001. Vilnius: TEV, 195--199 (2002; Zbl 1195.11120)] raised the problem of universality of multiple zeta-functions. Generalizing the above theorem the author obtains the joint universality theorem for the multiple zeta-function defined by \[ \sum_{n_1, n_2=0}^\infty \frac{e^{2\pi i\lambda (n_1+n_2)}} {(n_1+n_2+\alpha)^{s+1}}. \]
