Extending the results of [\textit{T. J. Ransford, M. C. White}, Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 23, No. 3, 256--262 (1991; Zbl 0749.32018)] in the case of the algebra of complex \(n\times n\) matrices, the author proves that every holomorphic mapping \(F\) from the set \(\{x\in A\mid\sigma(x)\subseteq D\}\) into itself such that \(F(0)=0\) and \(F'(0)=I\) preserves the spectrum \(\sigma(x)\) of every element \(x\) in~\(A\), where \(A\) is a semisimple finite-dimensional complex algebra and \(D\) stands for the open unit disc in the complex plane. From this theorem he deduces that every linear unital mapping from such \(A\) into itself which preserves the spectral radius of each element must be a Jordan isomorphism by reducing to the case of a spectrum-preserving linear unital mapping. This result has been first obtained in [\textit{M. Mathieu, A. R. Sourour}, Arch. Math. 82, No. 3, 222--229 (2004; Zbl 1075.47022)] by different means.
