This paper studies how weak convergence techniques can be used to improve classical theorems relating to nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. In particular, the theorems investigated relate to bifurcation and uniqueness properties. In the first section, the author provides a useful background to weak convergence and several theorems are presented and proved. In the next section, the proposed idea is applied to some classical bifurcation results, for example the bifurcation from zero and the bifurcation from infinity. Several theorems are presented with a lot of detail and with proofs. The third section studies the application of weak convergence to uniqueness theorems when a parameter is large and the last section of this article studies, in a similar fashion, multiple solutions to the Ambrosetti--Prodi problems. The paper concludes with a list of very useful references.
