The author proves uniqueness of bounded solutions of the Dirichlet problem for maximal surfaces in Minkowski 3-space: If \(v,v':\mathbb{R}^2 \to \mathbb{R}\) are two bounded solutions to the partial differential equation \[ \text{div}{\nabla v \over \sqrt{1-| \nabla v| ^2}} = 0 \] such that \(v\) and \(v'\) agree on the boundary \(\partial \Omega\) of a certain domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^2\), then \(v\) and \(v'\) agree on \(\Omega\). A similar statement for minimal surfaces in Euclidean 3-space is obtained as a corollary. The main contribution is the validity of the proof of the central results in case of an unbounded domain \(\Omega\). This is already mentioned in \textit{A. A. Klyachin} [Dokl. Akad. Nauk, 342, 162--164 (1995; Zbl 0879.35057)] but, apparently, without a proof.
