      The authors consider \[ -u''+V(x)u=W(x)f(u) \quad\text{on }(-\infty,\infty) \] subject to \[ u(x)\to 0]\text{ as }| x| \to\infty. \] \(V \in L^\infty_{\text{loc}}((-\infty,\infty))\) and \(W\in L^1((-\infty,\infty))\cap L^\infty((-\infty,\infty))\) are positive, and \(f\in C((-\infty,\infty))\) is either oscillatory near \(0^+\) or near \(\infty\). They establish (under additional assumptions) the existence of a sequence of weak solutions \((u_j)\) with either \(\| u_j\|\to 0\) (oscillatory behavior near \(0^+\)) or \(\| u_j\|\to \infty\) (oscillatory behavior near \(\infty\)). Here, \(\| w\|:=[\int_{-\infty}^\infty {w'}^2+V(\cdot)w^2]^{1\over 2}\) for \(w\in H^1((-\infty,\infty))\) with \(\int_{-\infty}^\infty V(\cdot)w^2<\infty\). The proofs rely on variational techniques.
