The author uses index theory on a cone to study the existence of positive solutions of the quasi-linear equation \[ \big ( \varphi_p(u^{(n-1)}(t)) \big )' + g(t) f(t, u(t), \dots , u^{(n-2)}(t)) = 0, \quad 0 < t < 1, \] where \(\varphi_p\) is the \(p\)-Laplacian operator, \(g:(0, 1) \to [0, +\infty)\) is Riemann integrable, and \(f: [0, +\infty)^{n-1} \to [0, +\infty)\) is a lower semi-continuous function. In addition to the main theorem on the existence of at least one positive solution, the author states two theorems on the existence of multiple positive solutions when the nonlinear term is sublinear at either \(0\) or \(\infty\) and superlinear at the other. There is an example at the end of the paper to illustrate the theorems.
