Key Java. Advanced tips and techniques
This book is aimed at developers who already know Java, its classes and tools, but who want to keep informed about a language, that has moved beyond just creating Web-based applets. It explores some of the more significant and exciting developments in Java and covers techniques that will be fundamental to programmers developing serious applications. It looks beyond the mechanics of coding applications and explores the concepts that will prove vital to getting the most benefit from the Java language. The main subjects covered are the design of classes for reusable components, code optimizations for speed and space, the use of JavaBeans, construction and documentation of frameworks, testing, accessing databases with the JDBC from applets, and the evolution of Swing and the Java Foundation Classes. The book is divided into four parts (Java development, Java testing, Java performance, graphic Java), which are completely self-contained. It is envisaged that this book will be used as a reference. Many important details are treated in the text, which offers an objective description of advantages and disadvantages of specific paradigms and techniques.
