Lexicographic generation of projective spaces

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Lexicographic or first choice constructions of geometric objects sometimes lead to amazingly good results. Usually it is difficult to determine the precise identity of these geometries. Here we find infinitely many cases where the identification actually can be accomplished.

The authors construct incidence matrices of point-line geometries by brute force, i.e. by putting a \(1\) in the first cell where it is not forbidden by the axioms. Amazingly, this works for projective spaces over the field with two elements and also for some other geometries.
