Locally primitive block designs

From MaRDI portal

This paper presents a systematic study of locally primitive 2-designs, proving that their automorphism groups must be flag-transitive and point-primitive, and are necessarily either almost simple or affine. The authors skilfully employ methods from coset graphs and the O'Nan-Scott-Praeger theorem to structure a clear and rigorous proof. Well-chosen examples illustrate each case of the classification. The work significantly advances the interface between combinatorial design theory and finite permutation groups, providing a strong foundation for future classification efforts.
