Low-complexity iterative receiver for space-time coded signals over frequency selective channels

From MaRDI portal

The need for new wireless services at high rates has produced interesting solutions for increasing the channel capacity. A cornerstone in this field was the introduction of array antennas, both at the transmitter and at the receiver. So, the initial system (one input one output) became a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. At the same time, an equalizer to reduce the channel time dispersion due to multipaths propagation became an important element of the system. The realization of such systems needs algorithms of high complexity. The paper proposes a list-type equalizer which provides a trade off between performance and system complexity. The key of the solution lies in using a whitened matched filter which makes the channel become minimum phase and forces the noise to be a white one. Detailed calculations for simulations which validate the merits of the proposed methods are given. We think the paper is a nice contribution in the area of MIMO equalization.
