Mapping class group orbit closures for non-orientable surfaces

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Let S be a connected non-orientable surface with negative Euler characteristic and of finite type. We describe the possible closures in mathcalMmathcalL and mathcalPmathcalMmathcalL of the mapping class group orbits of measured laminations, projective measured laminations and points in Teichm"uller space. In particular we obtain a characterization of the closure in mathcalMmathcalL of the set of weighted two-sided curves.

In this paper, the authors study the closures of the orbits of the action of the mapping class group of a complete, connected, non-orientable hyperbolic surface on the space of measured laminations, projective measured laminations and Teichmüller space. They describe the possible closures of the mapping class group orbits. In particular, they obtain a characterization of the closure in the space of measured laminations of the set of weighted two-sided curves.
