Minimal Polynomials Over Cyclotomic Fields

From MaRDI portal

This is an exercise in algebraic number theory. Let \(\zeta_n\) be a primitive \(n\)th root of unity, \(\Phi_n(X)\) the \(n\)-th cyclotomic polynomial. For a positive integer \(m\), with \(d=(n,m)\), \(e=n/d\), the minimal polynomial of \(\zeta_n\) over \(\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_m)\) is the greatest divisor of \(\Phi_n(X)\) and \(X^e- \zeta_d\).
