Moments in the Chebotarev density theorem: general class functions

From MaRDI portal

Let \(L/K\) be a Galois extension of number fields with Galois group \(G\) and let \(t(g)\) be a real-valued class function on \(G\). In the case when \(K\) is the field of rational numbers a bound for the error term in the asymptotical formula for\N\[\N\sum_{\mathfrak p, N(\mathfrak p)\le x}t(\phi(\mathfrak p))\N\]\N(where \(\phi(\mathfrak p)\) is the Frobenius substitution) has been obtained by \textit{J. Bellaïche} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 49, No. 3, 579--632 (2016; Zbl 1347.11079)] under the assumption of the General Riemann Conjecture and Artin's conjecture. This has been later generalized to the case of arbitrary \(K\) and improved by \textit{D. Fiorilli} and \textit{F. Jouve} [J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 23, No. 3, 1169--1258 (2024; Zbl 1555.11182)] who also obtained (under GRH) the average value of the error term \(E_\eta(x)\) in the asymptotic formula for\N\[\N\psi_\eta(x;L/K,t)=\sum_{N(\mathfrak p)\le x, m\ge1}t(\phi_\mathfrak p^m)\frac{\log(N(\mathfrak p))}{N(\mathfrak p)^{m/2}}\eta(\log(N(\mathfrak p^m)/x)),\N\]\Nwhere \(\eta(x)\) is a real function satisfying certain bounds for \(\eta, \eta'\) and the Fourier transform of \(\eta\).\N\NThe main result of the paper gives (under GRH and the Artin conjecture) a lower bound for weighted even moments of \(E_\eta(x)\) (Theorem 1.1) and Theorem 1.4 deals with their variance.
