Moufang permutations over small abelian groups

From MaRDI portal

Let \((X,+)\) be an abelian group. A permutation \(f\) of \(X\) is called Moufang if the map \(\beta:X\times X\to X\),\Ndefined by \(\beta(x,y)=f^{-1}(f(x)+f(y))-x-y\) is alternating, additive in both components, with the additional properties \(\beta(\beta(x,y),z)=0\) and \(\beta(f(x),f(y))= f(\beta(f^{3}(x),y))\) for all \(x,y,z\in X\).\N\NClearly, every automorphism of \(X\) is a Moufang permutation with \(\beta=0\). The others are called proper.\NLet \(C\) be a cyclic group and \(f\) a Moufang permutation on \(X\), then under suitable conditions, one can define a multiplication on \(C\times X\) to make it a Moufang loop. The authors show that \(X\) allows proper Moufang permutations if the \(2\)-primary component of \(X\) is not cyclic and has at least \(8\) elements.\N\NThey show that the derived Moufang loops are isomorphic if the Moufang permutations are conjugate by an automorphism of \(X\).\N\NFinally, they construct all Moufang permutations up to conjugacy by automorphisms for some small abelian \(2\)-groups.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1570.20002].
