Multiplicity free Weil representations arising from exceptional groups

From MaRDI portal

This paper studies a theta correspondence in the case of dual pair inside an exceptional group. Let \({\mathcal G}\) be a split simply connected group of type \(D_4,E_6,E_7\) or \(E_8\). Consider the \((\mathrm{SL}_2,G)\) dual pair in \({\mathcal G}\) where \(G\) is \(\mathrm{SL}_2^3,\mathrm{Sp}_6, \mathrm{Spin}_{12}\) and \(E_7\) respectively. Then the minimal representation \(\Pi\) defines a big Theta lift\N\[\N\Theta(\sigma)=(\Pi\otimes\sigma^{\vee})_{\mathrm{SL}_2}\N\]\NThe big Theta lift of principal series representations are calculated, and described using degenerate principal series representations induced from a maximal parabolic subgroup \(P=MN\) of \(G\). When \(\sigma\) is supercuspidal, it is shown that the \(\Theta(\sigma)_N=0.\)\N\NMore properties of this theta correspondence are established. It is shown that \(\Theta\) map is injective. For tempered \(\sigma\), based on the \(\Theta\) map in the case when \({\mathcal G}=D_4\), the \(\Theta\) map for other types of \({\mathcal G}\) can be described as Langlands quotients, exhibiting a tower property. The basic property of the Theta lift from \(G\) to \(\mathrm{SL}_2\) is also established, and it is shown that the image of an irreducible representation of \(G\) is irreducible.\N\NThe global analogue of this theta correspondence was studied by Mao-Rallis using relative trace formula method. The results fit in the conjectural framework of the duality conjectures of Ben-Zvi-Sakellaridis-Venkatesh, and provide some evidence for BZSV conjectures.
