New characterizations of the diamond partial order

From MaRDI portal

The so-called diamond partial order is introduced on the set of rectangular matrices over complex numbers. For this, the authors use the Moore-Penrose inverse and the range space of given matrices. The paper is devoted to detail study of this diamond partial order with connections to the so-called minus partial order introduced by \textit{R. E. Hartwig} [Math. Japon. 25, 1--13 (1980; Zbl 0442.06006)], to the sharp partial order introduced by \textit{S. K. Mitra} [Linear Algebra Appl. 92, 17--37 (1987; Zbl 0619.15006)] and the so-called star partial order defined by \textit{M. P. Drazin} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 84, 139--141 (1978; Zbl 0395.20044)]. The authors characterize diamond partial orders by means of the additive property on the column space. They investigate the reverse order law for Moore-Penrose inverse for a couple of matrices ordered by the diamond partial order. The algorithm to construct two matrices ordered by the diamond partial order is included as well as several numerical examples.
