Non-integrability of the restricted three-body problem

From MaRDI portal

In this paper, the author studies the non-integrability of the circular restricted three-body problem for the planar case and for the spatial case. The systems of equations of motion of the third massless body subjected to the gravitational attraction of the two primaries, for both cases (planar and spatial) are Hamiltonian with Hamiltonians \(H_2(x,y,p_x,p_y)\) and \(H_3(x,y,z,p_x,p_y,p_z)\), respectively. Their non-integrability means that the above equations of motion does not have one or two first integrals which is/are functionally independent of the Hamiltonians. The problem of non-integrability of equations is very classical and important in the theory of dynamical systems. Here, the author shows the non-integrability of the three-body problems, near the primaries for any \(\mu\in(0,1)\) fixed. His basic tool of the proofs is a technique developed, here, for determining whether perturbations on integrable systems which may be non-Hamiltonian are not meromorphically integrable near resonant periodic orbits such that the first integrals and commutative vector fields also depend meromorphically on the perturbation parameter. His technique is based on generalized versions due to \textit{M. Ayoul} and \textit{N. T. Zung} [C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 348, No. 23--24, 1323--1326 (2010; Zbl 1210.37076)] of Morales-Ramis and Morales-Ramis-Simo theories. His results are not just applications of these theories or their generalized versions.
