Nonlinear mathematical model of dolphin tail fin motion
For construction of nonlinear mathematical model of dolphin tail fin motion, the author uses an approach based on double and vortex layer potential theory, and also on the singular integral equations. The three-dimensional effects, the influence of thickness of the fin, and the flow viscosity are neglected. Using the improved method of discrete vortices, the author constructs a nonlinear, nonstationary, two-dimensional numerical model of dolphin tail fin motion, describing known features of this motion. The main mode of dolphin's swimming is characterized with minimal contribution of suction force into the thrust.
