Nonsingular extending modules

From MaRDI portal

Recall that a module \(M\) is called extending if every submodule of \(M\) is essential in a direct summand of \(M\). \textit{M. A. Kamal} and \textit{B. J. Müller} [Osaka J. Math. 25, No. 3, 531-538 (1988; Zbl 0715.13006)]\ have shown that a torsionfree extending module over a commutative domain is a finite direct sum of injective modules and uniform modules. The main result of the paper under review generalizes this by showing that if \(R\) is a semiprime right Goldie ring then any nonsingular extending right \(R\)-module is likewise a finite direct sum of injectives and uniforms. As a consequence, it is proved that if \(R\) is a commutative ring with prime radical \(N\) such that \(R/N\) is a Goldie ring then any nonsingular extending \(R\)-module is a finite direct sum of uniforms and injective \((R/N)\)-modules. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0878.00051].
