Normalized Gompertz wavelets and their applications
The paper introduces a novel class of wavelets based on the Gompertz function, studies their theoretical properties, and demonstrates their practical applications. First, the Gompertz function is revisited, and its derivatives are expressed in terms of Stirling numbers of the second kind. Then, the Gompertz wavelets of order \(n\) are defined using the \(n\)th derivative of the Gompertz function normalized using Bernoulli numbers. These wavelets are proven to satisfy the admissibility condition essential for wavelet analysis. As a practical application, the constructed wavelets are used within a continuous wavelet transform framework to analyze a specific time series composed of two Gompertz functions and to model the spread of COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia.
