Abstract: We show that there are no normally contracting actions of unimodular Lie groups on closed manifolds.

The authors show two main theorems; 1) there are no normally contracting actions of unimodular Lie groups on closed manifolds and 2) there are no central normally contracting actions of any Lie group on closed manifolds. A further problem is also set out.
