Note on Legendre numbers
From MaRDI portal
[This article is reviewed together with the following one (Zbl 0653.10010).] The Legendre numbers \(P^ m_ n\) are defined by \(P^ m_ n=P^ m_ n(0)\) where \[ P^ m_ n(x)=(1-x^ 2)^{m/2} D^ m(P_ n(x)), \] and \(P_ n(x)\) is the Legendre polynomial. An explicit formula for \(P^ m_ n\) was given by \textit{P. W. Haggard} [ibid. 8, 407--411 (1985; Zbl 0576.10006)]. In these two articles several results are proved including a bound on \(P^ m_ n\), a summation formula, a recursive definition, and a characterization of when \(P^ m_ n\) is integral.
