On a generalization of an EP element

From MaRDI portal

Let \(S\) be a \(\ast\)-monoid. An element \(a \in S\) is said to be EP when \(a\) is Moore-Penrose invertible and \(aa^\dag = a^\dag a\). An alternative characterization of EP elements (using the invertibility along an element) is provided in this paper, and this characterization enables the authors to extend the notion of EP-ness to what the authors define as \(w\)-EP elements, where \(w\) is an element of the semigroup.\N\NThe authors provide several examples, characterizations of \(w\)-EP elements, relations with the invertibility along an element, core invertibility. Finally, the authors investigate further properties when the setting is a \(\ast\)-ring instead a \(\ast\)-monoid.
