On a new class of infinite groups
The wide class of \(\Phi\)-groups defined in this paper contains some groups of Burnside type and Ol'shanskij's group. The first part of the paper is dedicated to examples and properties of \(\Phi\)-groups. The principal result is the following. If a group contains an involution \(a\) which satisfies the conditions: 1) \(|\text{gr}(a,a^g)|<\infty\) \(\forall g\in G\); 2) the normalizer of every nontrivial \((a)\)-invariant finite subgroup has layer-finite periodic part, then either the set of all elements of finite order forms a layer-finite group or \(G\) is a \(\Phi\)-group. For a group \(G\) which is generated by some conjugacy class of involutions \(G=\text{gr}(i^g\mid g\in G)\) satisfying condition 1) for almost all \(g\in G\) and condition 2) it follows that either \(|G|<\infty\) or \(G\) is a \(\Phi\)-group.
