The authors consider the uniqueness problem of an entire functions, when it shares a set, containing three elements, counting multiplicities, with a linear differential polynomial generated by it. By their results, the authors answer a long-standing open problem posed by \textit{P. Li} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 310, No. 2, 412--423 (2005; Zbl 1084.30030)].
