The authors present a direct and selfcontained method to construct compatible regularizing data in the two model cases of a linear second-order hyperbolic equation, with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, under the minimal regularity assumptions on the coefficients that are sufficient for applications to the corresponding nonlinear problems.
