On conditions for engineering stability of dynamical systems with variable structure

The author extends a series of his articles dedicated to technical stability [see, for example, Ukr. Mat. Zh. 51, No. 12, 1645-1658 (1999; Zbl 0933.93024), Ukr. Math. J. 50, No. 10, 1544-1550 (1998; Zbl 0934.93035), Ukr. Math. J. 49, No. 10, 1507-1515 (1997; Zbl 0933.93048), Int. Appl. Mech. 33, No. 9, 754-759 (1997; Zbl 0918.49005), Int. Appl. Mech. 33, No. 11, 926-931 (1997; Zbl 0916.93033), etc.]. In the article under review, the author obtains sufficient conditions for technical stability of a control system described by the differential equation \[ {d^ny\over dt^n}+a_n{d^{n-1}y\over dt^{n-1}}+\dots + a_2{dy\over dt}=-u \] where the discontinuous control \(u\) has the representation \[ \begin{gathered} u=\psi y,\quad \psi = \begin{cases} \alpha &\text{for} ys>0, \\ \beta &\text{for} ys<0, \end{cases} \\ s=c_1y+c_2{dy\over dt}+c_3{d^2y\over dt^2}+\dots +c_n {d^{n-1}y\over dt^{n-1}}; \quad \alpha ,\beta ,a_i,c_i=\text{const},\;c_n=1, \end{gathered} \] and it is assumed that \(n-1\) roots of the characteristic equation \( \lambda ^n+a_n\lambda ^{n-1}+\dots +a_2\lambda =0 \) have negative real parts and one root is equal to zero.
