On generalized Star-GCD extensions

From MaRDI portal

All rings considered in this paper are commutative with identity. Let \( R \subseteq S\) be a ring extension and \(\mathcal{J} (R, S)\) be the set of all \(R\)-submodules of \(S.\) A map \(\star : \mathcal {J} (R, S) \mapsto \mathcal {J} (R, S)\) is called a star operation on \( R \subseteq S\) if the following conditions are satisfied for all \(A, B \in \mathcal{J }(R, S):\)\N\N\((c1)\) \( A \subseteq A^{\star}.\)\N\N\((c2) \) If \(A \subseteq B,\) then \(A^{\star} \subseteq B^{\star}.\)\N\N\((c3)\) \((A^{\star})^{\star} = A^{\star}.\)\N\N\((c4)\) \(AB^{\star} \subseteq (AB)^{\star}.\)\N\NA star operation \(\star\) on a ring extension \(R \subset S\) is said to be strict if \(R^{\star} = R.\) On the other hand, \(\star\) is said to be of finite type if for each \(R\)-submodule \(A\) of \(S, \) \(A^{\star} = \cup K^{\star},\) where \(K\) ranges over all the finitely generated \(R\)-submodules of \(S\) contained in \(A.\) Let \(\star\) be a star operation on a ring extension \(R \subseteq S.\) An \(R\)-submodule \(A\) of \(S\) is said to be \(\star\)-invertible if \((AA^{-1} )^{\star}= R^{\star},\) where \(A^{-1}\) denotes the set of all \(x \in S \) such that \(xI \subseteq R.\) The ring extension \(R \subseteq S\) is called a generalized \(\star\)-greatest common divisor (G-\(\star\)GCD) extension if the intersection of two \(\star\)-invertible ideals of R is \(\star\)-invertible.\N\NIn this paper under review the authors investigate properties of G-\(\star\)GCD extensions. They prove among others that if \(\star\) is a strict star operation of finite type on a Prüfer \(\star\)-multiplication extension ring \( R\subseteq S\) then \( R\subseteq S\) is a G-\(\star\) GCD extension. They also study G-\(\star\) GCD domains in pullback diagrams of type \(\square.\) Moreover, they show that for two star operations \(\star_{1}, \star_{2}\) defined respectively on \( R\subseteq S\) and \( R[X] \subseteq S[X]\) such that \(A^{\star_{1}}R[X] = (AR[X])^{\star_{2}}\) for each \(R\)-submodule \(A\) of \(S,\) if the ring extension \( R[X] \subseteq S[X]\) is G-\(\star_{2}\)GCD, then \( R\subseteq S\) is G-\(\star_{1}\)GCD. They also give sufficient conditions so that the converse of the last statement becomes true.
