On interpolation in SPH
The characteristics of different types of kernel interpolation, used in the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH), are discussed in this article. They are conventional SPH, normalized SPH (NSPH), corrected kernel SPH (CSPH), and normalized corrected kernel SPH (NCSPH). These methods, which have been considered in a fully mesh-free form, have been applied to a 1D symmetric elastic impact problem, and a shock-tube. The authors' conclusion, based upon the output of the conducted tests, is that the performance of the NCSPH is the best. The paper contains 42 figures which show the velocity, density and pressure profiles, and some other experimental outputs.
