On subintegrality

From MaRDI portal

This is an expository paper that summarizes work of the author on subintegral and weakly subintegral ring extensions in a series of papers, some of which are joint with L. Reid and L. G. Roberts, namely: In Compos. Math. 85, 249-279 (1993; Zbl 0782.13006), \textit{L. G. Roberts} and \textit{B. Singh} defined the ideal class group \(I(A,B)\) of an extension of commutative rings \(A\subseteq B\), and then showed that if \(A\) is an algebra containing the rationals and \(A\subseteq B\) is subintegral then \(I(A,B)\cong B/A\). In order to prove this result a characterization is given of elements \(b\in B\) such that \(A\subseteq A[b]\) is subintegral. In Compos. Math. 95, 309-321 (1995; Zbl 0858.13001), \textit{B. Singh} generalized the ideal class results to the case where \(A\) contains a finite field, and in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 144, 93-109 (1996; Zbl 0898.13016), \textit{L. Reid, L. G. Roberts} and \textit{B. Singh} extended the element characterization results to arbitrary ring extensions (but with subintegrality replaced by weak subintegrality). Some details and additional results are in other papers of the series. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0921.00043].
