On the Distribution Behaviour of Sequences

From MaRDI portal

The author proves interesting characterizations of possible sets of all distribution measures of some sequence in a locally compact Hausdorff space \(X\) with countable topological base. For the compact case this description is closely related to the results of \textit{E. Hlawka} [Abh. Math. Semin. Hamb. 20, 223-241 (1956; Zbl 0072.05701)] and \textit{K. Sigmund} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 295, 72-79 (1977; Zbl 0354.54025)]. The sets of limit distribution of a given sequence are characterized as sets of finite Borel measures being nonempty, closed (in the vague topology), connected and containing only measures \(\mu\) with \(0\leq\mu (X)\leq 1\) (or \(\mu(X) =1\) for \(X\) compact). Any set with these properties can be obtained as the set of limit distributions of a sequence even by rearranging an arbitrarily given dense sequence. The typical case in the sense of Baire categories is that a sequence takes as limit distributions all possible measures of this type.
